Theater: The roots of theater can be traced back to the Roman era, with theaters in Palmyra and Bosra being among the most important performance centers. Modern Theater: This began in the early 20th century, spearheaded by intellectuals such as Abu Khalil al-Qabbani, considered a pioneer of Arab theater. Later, Syrian theater evolved into a cultural and social platform, oscillating between comedy, tragedy, and political themes. Dance and Live Performance: There are traditional Syrian folk dances, such as the dabke, which express joy and unity. Contemporary dance has begun to spread in recent years through independent groups, reflecting contemporary human experiences. Opera: The Damascus Opera House was built in 2004, serving as a platform for local and international musical and theatrical performances.

Music is an integral part of Syrian culture. Since ancient times, music has continued to expand and evolve, influenced by various other cultures. Syrian music is characterized by its many diverse genres and styles, including Roman, Byzantine, Hindu, Indian, Tuareg, Kabbalistic, French, and American influences. The instruments used in Syrian music are also diverse, including the oud, qanun, nay, frentura, daf, drums, qurnat, kalabus, and harf.

Sculpture: For thousands of years, Syria has been renowned for its statues and reliefs. In Palmyra, Mari, and Raqqa, statues of kings, priests, and gods carved from stone and bronze have been found. Artworks depicting scenes from daily life have also been discovered in Ebla. Roman and Byzantine Periods: Sculpture developed significantly, particularly in carved stone facades, columns, and tombs. Modern Art: Modern Syrian sculpture blends symbolism and abstraction, utilizing stone, wood, and metal. Among the most famous sculptors are Mustafa Ali and Fateh al-Moudarres (who combined painting and sculpture). Architecture: Ancient Times: Syrian architecture is among the oldest in history (archaeological cities such as Apamea, Palmyra, and Bosra). Islamic Era: Syrian architecture was distinguished by the designs of mosques and Damascene houses, featuring courtyards, fountains, wood carvings, and stained glass. 20th Century: Traditional and modern styles blended while preserving an Eastern identity in design. 21st Century: There is a new trend toward reviving traditional architecture using modern methods.

Ancient Times: From the civilizations of Ebla, Mari, Palmyra, and Ugarit, the visual arts emerged through wall paintings, stone carvings, and clay and bronze sculptures. These arts served as a means of religious, political, and social expression. Islamic Times: During the Umayyad and Abbasid eras, ornamentation, Arabic calligraphy, and mosaics flourished, particularly in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, considered one of the greatest examples of architectural and decorative art in the Islamic world. 20th Century: Specialized art schools in painting and sculpture emerged, especially in Damascus and Aleppo. Syrian artists were influenced by modern European movements, resulting in the appearance of realism, abstraction, and expressionism in paintings. Today: Syrian visual art is very diverse—combining Eastern authenticity with contemporary experimentation—and the works of Syrian artists are exhibited in international galleries (such as Safwan Dahoul, Nazir Nabaa, and Louay Kayali).
